CBS (Could Be Systemic)

Lately, the problems at CBS have become shockingly apparent to all. However, the problems are not isolated to one man or one news show or even to the news division itself.

On Thursday, September 16, While the controversy over Dan Rather using forged documents in an attempt to influence a presidential Election was raging full-steam, CBS Radio News reported with certainty that President Bush's post convention bounce had evaporated. This report may have also been on CBS TV News as well but I don't watch that anymore. Unfortunately, the radio station in my area that carries my favorite talk shows also runs CBS Radio News (but I am working on correcting this problem too).

CBS sited a Pew survey as their source for claiming that Bush had lost his bounce. Unfortunately, information soon came forth to dispute this hopeful CBS report. Worse yet, the contrary information came right from CBS itself. The CBS poll released the very next day, Sept. 17, indicated that the President's convention bounce had not "evaporated" but instead the President still had an eight point lead over Kerry. I guess the news division didn't consult with their poll takers first (or maybe they did what they have done before and ignored the contrary information).

Even their sports division can't get it right. During a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Denver Broncos kicked a field goal with time expiring in the first half to make the score 7 to 6. CBS Sports (who was unfortunately carrying the game broadcast) reported the score as still being 7 to 3. It obviously is not as bad as what Dan did but it shows just how diverse the problem is at CBS.

For more humorous information on someone else who can't get anything right when it comes to sports either (John Kerry), visit the good folks at Football Fans for Truth whose web-site is linked in the title above.

Oh Danny, Boy! You Blew it This Time

Dan Rather is a lot of things. He is biased, arrogant and not very articulate at 2 AM during a close election. However, he is not very smart. You see, Dan Rather thought he could pull a fast one on the American people by composing a hit piece on President Bush based on clearly fraudulent memos and statements by a top fund raiser to the Kerry Campaign who has changed his story about Lt. Bush's National Guard Service more often than Kerry has changed his policy on Iraq (and that's really saying something).

What Dinosaur Dan doesn't realize is that we live in a new age. With the advent of the Internet and Talk Radio, his bias no longer goes unanswered. Within hours after his 60 Minutes II report, the folks at Powerline (the link above) were on Dan Rather like Michael Moore on a Big Mac. As THE Blog exposed how these memos could not possibly have been written in 1972 due to the easily recognizable modern type face in them, the word spread across the new media like wildfire through mismanaged National Forest land.

CBS has tried to answer the many questions that have come their way including who the so-called expert was that verified these documents. They first claimed that they consulted with people who knew the style of Lt. Col. Jerry Killian. However, when family members came forward and stated that these documents were not consistent with anything he would have composed, CBS fell back and simply stated that an in depth investigation is underway. I suspect that the investigation will focus primarily on how to get out of this mess as gracefully as possible but will not really disclose answers to the fraud committed.

Thank God for this forum we know as the New Media that becomes more powerful every day. I suggest all people of good conscience and heart take part in it to counteract the lies and distortions of the mainstream media.
